2013 AFCON : We can only improve – Drogba

Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba believes his side have a lot of room for improvement, despite their 2-1 win over Togo in their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations opener.

The 34-year-old was not amongst the scorers, but goals from Yaya Toure and Gervinho were enough to secure maximum points, while Jonathan Ayite netted the only goal for Togo.

“I think that the start was laborious,” said Drogba. “But we did not expect something different.

“We made a lot of mistakes, but what is good to know, despite the goal we conceded, is that we can only improve.

“We need to work and correct these mistakes as soon as possible. It was not easy to play in this heat.”

Now that they have gone past their opening match jitters, Drogba and company will look to consolidate their place on top of Group D when they take on Tunisia on Saturday afternoon.

The Carthage Eagles also started their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Algeria, making this a crucial encounter for both teams.
