World Bank Lists Zoomlion For Corruption

The World Bank has debarred Ghanaian Waste Management Company, Zoomlion.

In a list of about 600 companies, Zoomlion was blacklisted for corrupt practices and this would render the company and its affiliates ineligible for the World Bank’s contracts.

Zoomlion Ghana Ltd., and two of its affiliates Accra Compost Plant, and Zoom Alliance are on the blacklist and would serve the ban for a period of 1 year,September 24, 2013 to September 23, 2015.

The Bank revealed in 2013 that, ”Zoomlion paid bribes to facilitate contract execution and processing of invoices of the Emergency Monrovia Urban Sanitation Project in Liberia”. According to the Bank, Zoomlion has accepted the misconduct. A total of 11 Nigerian companies were on the blacklist: these are D.A. Construction Ltd., ineligible for World Bank contracts from May 6, 2014 to May 5, 2017. Scientific Energy and Env. Management Systems, debarred from June 17, 2013 to June 17, 2015.SNC-Lavalin International (Nigeria) Ltd., an affiliate of the Canadian company, debarred from April 17, 2013 to April 17, 2023.Contransimex Nigeria Ltd. and Sego Ventures Nigeria Ltd. too are on the list. These companies would suffer a permanent exclusion from the World Bank contracts.

They are Karitex Ltd., from February 24, 2000, Gurpreet Singh Malik, Kamal Sharda, Sharda Impex (UK) Ltd., Shereena Agriculture Ltd., Vikram Deepak Gursahaney were all debarred on February 11, 2000 for violating Procurement Guidelines 1.15(a)(i) and (ii) of the Bank.

Canada was on top of the list with about 117 companies debarred by the World bank.
