I wasn’t born or raised in Accra. I have only been living here less than Atta Mills was President of this land.

Before moving here i had many perceptions about this great city which turned out to not be exactly true. And there may be a little truth behind those stories, but a lot of it is exaggerated . If you are a true ‘Accranian’ you will be able to relate to these comments.

Whether you’re travelling to Accra from other cities on work or vacation, or if you’re here for a long stay or just to transit to other places around the globe, may we humbly suggest that you read this story with an open mind and enjoy your stay in Nkran! :)

1. The are very arrogant people

Accra is probably the most diverse city in the country, people from all over Ghana can be found here as well as a sea of foreigners, and they are all welcomed with opened arms. So how does one identify if an ‘Accranian’ is being rude to you or someone from Kumasi, Konongo or Tamale? Being arrogant or humble is a personality trait and generalizing it for Accra is a little far fetched, don’t you think so?

2. They are not unfriendly koraa

Even since i moved here i have heard several stories about market women, drivers being utter rude to everyone, but i have also seen people stopping on the road to help an old person or a blind man cross the road, or help foreigners with directions.

3. Extremely unsafe

To a degree i accept the fact that Accra is an unsafe city but not as bad at they make it seem. It’s
perfectly fine to get out of the house in Accra, use public transportation and go on about your daily errands. You do not have enough freedom to stroll around alone at night but when you are rolling in groups, things are under control and not as bad as i heard before moving here.

4. Accra girls have a serious attitude problem

To be honest, i love to see girls here carry a little attitude, i like to call it ‘positive attitude mixed with confidence’. Other than that, i have no clue what people are talking about when they say Accra girls have attitude. *Sucks teeth and roll eyes*
