Radio presenter and reggae musician, Blakk Rasta will today face Parliament to know his fate with regards to the weed comments he passed a couple of weeks ago.
As can be recalled, Blakk Rasta on his show on Hitz Fm stated that 80% of Parliamentarians smoke marijuana. This compelled the Privileges Committee of parliament to invite him where he apologized profusely over the comment upon appearance.
It has emerged that the privileges committee has concluded investigations into the case and has presented it’s report to Parliament. The house will today, 23 July, decide on the report.
The Parliamentary Act (Act 300), gives Parliament the power; where the Privileges Committee or where Parliament thinks that a stranger is in contempt to order the Attorney General to prosecute that person.
Professor Dodoo, Chairman of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Pharmaco-Vigilance, who has also appeared before the Privileges Committee of parliament over a statement he made that the legislators are ignorant when they spoke on the suspended Ebola vaccine trial in the Volta Region, will also know the decision of parliament on his case.
According to Emmanuel Bedzrah, a member of the Privileges Committee who spoke to Joy News, MPs are taking comments made by Professor Dodoo and Blakk Rasta seriously. He further indicated that the legislature has a mandate to protect its integrity.
Professor Dodoo and Blakk Rasta may choose to be represented by their counsels when MPs sit to pass judgement on their comments at noon on Thursday.
