On Wednesday, July 22, 2015, President John Dramani Mahama made history with women in Ghana.
Mrs Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, a career diplomat, was sworn in as Ghana’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), the first time in the history of the country that a woman is occupying that enviable position.
Mrs Martha Pobee, until her appointment was Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa.
She takes over from Ambassador Ken Kanda, who retired in March this year after thirty-nine years of career in the Foreign Service.
