World’s greatest scientists reveal computer that never crashes

Whether it’s a PC’s Blue Screen of Death or a Mac’s Spinning Pinwheel of Doom, a computer crash can be the most frustrating, profanity-inducing thing ever. But computer scientists at University College London say they’ve created a computer that never crashes, ever. The “systemic computer” is a self-repairing machine that is based on the randomness of nature instead of the linear multitasking of your desktop machine.

“The systemic computer contains multiple copies of its instructions … so if one system becomes corrupted, the computer can access another clean copy to repair its own code,” New Scientist explains. Researchers hope this self-repairing technology could be used for “mission-critical systems,” such as allowing damaged drones to reprogram themselves on the fly, literally. [Source]
