We’ve asked and wondered several times whether our Police are there to protect us or abuse us.
Day-in, day-out, we get inundated with pictures and videos of police brutality which leaves us shocked, angry and confused.
I was sent this video and after watching it, I got very angry. A policeman beating a passenger for asking him a simple question, who does that and for what reason?
The story is like this. The policeman in the video apparently prevented the vehicle in which the victim was in from parking and loading at a particular place. The victim who was in the vehicle and could see, as shown in the video, another vehicle which has been allowed to park and load at the same place under the watch of the officer, asked the him why he was preventing their driver from doing same.
This question infuriated the police officer who didn’t waste any time in unleashing his wrath on the poor passenger by beating him severally with his truncheon.
You can hear from the video, other passengers asking the policeman what the passenger has done to receive such treatment.
We want to ask the Ghana Police Service, is it wrong for a civilian to question an action by a police officer? Is it right for a police officer to physically abuse a civilian for asking a question??
