Commission of Police (COP) John Kudalor, has been appointed acting Inspector General of police by President Mahama.

COP Kudalor has been with the police force for over 20 years and has been the Director General of Police Operations for the past three years.

He replaces the current IGP, Mohammed Alhassan who begins his accumulated leave as he prepares to go on retirement.

Debate over who becomes the substantive IGP has been intense with many tipping COP Rose Atenga-Bio to land the top job. It’s still uncertain whether President Mahama will confirm COP Kudalor as the substantive IGP when Mohammed Alhassan finally retires.

The current IGP, Mohammed Alhassan was appointed acting IGP in 2013 when the then Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye was asked to commence his compulsory 90-day terminal leave. He was later confirmed in June that year.

It’s therefore possible that COP Kudalor will be confirmed substantive Inspector General of Police but it’s still early days yet.
