It’s safe to say that the Nairobi events scene is pretty saturated at the moment.
Every other weekend there’s a pool party or a fashion event going down. However, to come up with a great concept that’s not fleeting and one that will generate a clout effortlessly is what sets you apart and that is exactly what the 2manysiblings duo made up of Oliver a.k.a Papa Petite and his sister Velma has done by creating Thrift Social.

Thrift Social is a convention of fashion enthusiasts, fashion entrepreneurs, thrift shoppers, music lovers and the trend setters of Nairobi.
We spoke to Papa Petite to get an insight as to why it’s arguably the coolest event in Nairobi at the moment:
OMGVoice: Tell us a little bit about Thrift Social and the concept behind it.
Papa Petite: The idea is to provide a platform for creative entrepreneurs in fashion, music and art. The same way we go about thrifting clothes to come up with a cool outfit, is the same way we choose different vendors and artists to curate the event together; thus the name ‘Thrift Social’.
OMGVoice: What sets you apart from other fashion and social events?
Papa Petite: The difference between us and other fashion events is the fact that we choose the vendors we want to participate at Thrift Social. We are very specific about who participates because each event has its own theme and the vibe changes every time.
OMGVoice: There have been instances where famous events end up being just a fad and die out. What’s Thrift Social’s future plan? Do you plan on expanding to other countries in future?
Papa Petite: I don’t think we are famous yet LOL. We are focused on the quality of the event more than quantity and more so to improve the taste pallets of people and Nairobi and who knows we just might expand to somewhere else in the near future.
OMGVoice: Most of the people that attend Thrift Social have a grungy style. Do you think that they’re inspired by Velma and yourself?
Papa Petite: I would say it’s not mainly inspired by us, but we have contributed to it. Most people who come to Thrift Social are free when it comes to expressing themselves that’s why you see so many style tribes.
OMGVoice: For someone who has not attended any Thrift Social event, what can they expect and what’s the next event date and venue?
Papa Petite: It’s to expect the unexpected. The last Thrift Social won’t be the same as the next one and so forth. But generally, it’s all about good vibes and good people. We are looking at having a special edition come Easter and are really excited about this one. Stay tuned guys!
