A friend once said, if you’ve never been through Senior High School, you’ve not experienced life.
The Senior High School is where we pick all our habits and lifestyles, it is where you’re shaped. That’s where you really have to learn to survive because you have to live with “scavengers” and “wolves” and we also have the saints. But in all, we have the freshers and the seniors who make your life miserable. We’ve all been through this gate of hell and heaven mixed together.
As a fresher, we’ve all been through the rigors of some unnecessary punishments in the hands of seniors who feel they just have to punish you because they were there before you.
From the day your parents drop you in you school, you realize you’re in for trouble because just at the entrance and sometimes right in front of your parents you receive your first punishment. It doesn’t end there, it continues till you probably move to the second year. These are some of the punishments we wish to look at. Let’s roll…
1. Fill In The Gap
Fill in the gap is a type of punishment meted out to freshers where the senior opens his fingers in the form of a crab and ask you to fill it with your nose. When you do, he grips it and pulls so hard on it you can feel your head aching.

2. Goro
With this of punishment, you wouldn’t want to experience it. The senior clasp his fingers in the form of scorpion and then tells you to pump your cheeks. He then starts telling you the angle he’s going to hit you from and the highest is at 360 degrees. So depending on the person, he can swing his arm from 90 degrees or 180 degrees to land on your cheek. If his fingers are long, it will be the worse pain you’ve ever experienced. This will leave you with a blood in your mouth because with such a hit, you’re bound to bite your cheek due to the impact and you find your mouth filled with blood which makes it appear as if you just chewed kola nut hence the name Goro.

3. Motor Rider
This kind punishment was more like an exercise for those who love to exercise, but if you’re not into exercising, that’s when you feel the full rigors of the punishment.
In this type, you’re made to pose in the form of a motor rider but then you don’t get to sit on a motor bike, it’s imaginary and you can be in that position for hours. This will leave you shivering like a leaf and sweating like a pregnant fish. When it’s finally over, you can hardly stand on your feet to walk properly. You will find yourself wobbling.
4. Mr. Wakanda
Well! we don’t know how you termed it in your school but from where I schooled, there was a statue that was known as Mr. Wakanda and you’re made to go greet him and he must respond. If he doesn’t, “you go chop beatings”. And obviously he can’t so the beating is inevitable.

5. Shopping Mall
Sometimes seniors come around and tell you they are shopping so give up your provisions. This means you have to give them everything you have or else you wouldn’t like what will happen next. This is painful, imagine them taking your favourite biscuit.

6. Car Push
So the senior and his colleagues draw a car on a wall or chalk board and tell you to push the car from where it is to the order end and you have to make sure it doesn’t clean off the board. If you’re unable to push it, it’s either you will “chop goro” or “akoto”. You it’s impossible and so being punished is inevitable.

7. Gari Walker
Well you’ve heard of Johnny Walker and boys love to have a feel of it all the time, but with this kind of punishment, it’s not something you will wish to even have a taste of. Before Johnny Walker, we had something known as Gari Walker.
The punishment is such that gari is spread on the hard cemented floor from the end of one corridor to the other and you’re made to kneel in it and walk to and fro. If you don’t know what pain is, then wait till you go through this punishment.

8. Carrier
On your first day at school, this is the punishment you get even before you see your dormitory. You are made to carry your trunk and “chop box” while kneeling and after some time, you are made to carry to the dormitory.

9. Borhor
The moment you hear this word, it means you have to get down on your knees and it doesn’t matter where you’re lying. If you’re even standing in torns, you need to kneel down and you wouldn’t know when you’re supposed to stand back up.

10. Star Call
This usually happen to the ladies. You’re asked to imaginary call your boyfriend and convince to come have sex with you and you have to sound romantic on the phone if not, you will receive a worst punishment.
11. Se non dike
During church service on Sunday, while in your white attire, the seniors shout, “Se non dike” and it means you all have to converge at the bath house. You’re all made to lie flat in the muddy bath house ruining your white shirt and it happens every Sunday after church till you finally move to second year.

12. Baptism
Never wish this even on your worst enemy. Gari soakings is left for a week, then all decayed foodstuffs are added to the “concoction”. While it’s left there, some seniors will pee in it, brush their teeth and drop the foam in there. Any nasty thing you can think of and they use to baptize you.

13 Senior Da
In the night, you don’t sleep till your senior sleeps and you have to fan him till he sleeps, before you go to sleep and you have to sing him or her a lullaby that goes as…Senior da oh! da me nso me nda bi.

14. “Ponding”
This was very common in almost all the high schools in the country. In my place, the pond was a very dirty one and you have to dress like you’re going to class with your shoes and everything, you’re carried and thrown into the muddy pond and you have to swim. They do this when it’s your first day at school and your uniform is brand new.

15. Homos Night
Anybody who has passed through SSS or SHS knows about the homos night and so wouldn’t want to go into details. This is where all the worse things happen and all freshers are made to dress like caricatures and paraded in the assembly hall. You end up doing all the worse things you never expect to do.
16. Sukule
This was so common it finally found its way into our homes and became like a common sport among friends at home. With this kind, you’re made to bend over and the senior will stuck his thump in your ass so hard it will make feel like visiting the loo.
