Gushiegu:Strong Winds Leave Hundreds Homeless
Hundreds of residents in Gushiegu, Northern Region, have been rendered homeless by strong winds that ripped the roofs off of their homes last night.
The winds, which began at around 2030hrs, wreaked havoc on many structures including the Electoral Commission’s local office, two junior high schools, a senior high school and hundreds of houses.
According to Gushiegu District Chief Executive (DCE) Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini, the ongoing load shedding exercise compounded the chaos as the area was already in darkness when the gusts hit.
He told Joy News’ Northern Region correspondent Mohammed Hasmid that scores of people were injured in the pandemonium caused by the windstorm.
He reported that the District Assembly is liaising with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to provide relief items to those affected as they work to restore normalcy to the lives of shaken residents.
