1. Paying bribe for people to do their work
In Ghana you regularly have to pay bribe for people to do their work, for eg. getting a passport, driver’s license, is a nightmare, you’d have to pay more than the official charges to get it done, pay to expedite the process and also pay more bribes to renew it when it expires … you just can’t win. Bribery goes as far as the judiciary system where some court judges took bribes in the form of goats(smh) and petty cash to free guilty criminals.

2. Power cuts
Power cuts are nothing new in Africa, but in Ghana power cuts can go for as long as 48 hours … yes!

5. Companies constantly taking customers for a ride
Companies do not give two *bleeps* about customers’ complaints, customer support means nothing in this side of town. You can pay for a service and it won’t work for a whole month and there’s absolutely nothing anybody can do about it.

6. Slow internet
Internet is slow as *bleep*. Moderately-faster internet costs an arm and a leg.
7. Lack of reliability
If a Ghanaian freelancer asks you to come back in three days for a work-done, just know that he actually means three weeks. Tailors and seamstresses are masters of this game.

8. One to two years rent advance
In most parts of the world rent is paid monthly, in Ghana, you’d have to cough out one or two years rent money upfront before you get a place to sleep at night
9. Elders are always right
In Ghana, being young means you are stupid, old means wise … period!
