Kenyan Artistes have faced backlash from fellow Kenyans who compare their music to West and South Africa and our neighbors Tanzania and Uganda.
Of course there are Kenyan artistes who try and do a fantastic job but most of the time, in comparison to their counterparts, listening to some Kenyan artistes is really like taking decaf coffee.
We do not have many female artistes who have proven themselves to be way above par. However, there are those that are semi-famous, don’t get much airplay but are really talented and it’s a shame that they are not as celebrated as the mainstream ones.
Here are 5 very talented yet underrated female artistes in Kenya:
1. Cece Sagini
Cece Sagini, who recently got engaged to Photographer Victor Peace on The Trend and nearly broke the internet is a case of talent overload. Cece first came into the limelight for collaborating with Jimmy Gait on the song ‘Appointment’. However, she has spread her wings and gone ahead to release solos such as ‘Feel It’ and her latest song ‘9-5’.
2. Phy Ngetich
Phy first came into the limelight after taking part in Maisha Superstar and Airtel Trace Music Star where she wowed many with her vocals. Phy has collaborated with Rabbit and Kaligraph Jones in a song called Ruka; a single from her debut album #PHYLOSOPHY and it’s a 10/10!
3. Sara Mitaru
Sara has been around for a minute! Her song ‘You Said’, featuring Bien of Sauti Sol received some airplay and we wish we could hear more of what she has to offer.
4. Sage
We all probably heard of Sage when she collaborated with Octopizzo on the song ‘So Alive’ which got a lot of airplay as well as her other hit collabo ‘Dumbala’, with Jay A.
5. Naomi Wachira
Don’t you just love it when girls sing and play the guitar? I would pay to have Naomi serenade me!
