Ghana is seen as the gateway to Africa because we believe we’ve advanced than most African countries.
However, it will surprise you to know that, there are a lot of things happening right here which is so archaic. Here are 5 of such cases.
1. People Still Live In Caves
Somewhere in the remote parts of the Brong Ahafo Region, there are still tribes who comfortably live in caves nicely designed to accommodate them. I am a personal witness to one of these ways of living when we went on a tour back in the year 2005, but there are tourists who still report of such abodes in Ghana in the year 2016.

2. Weird Cultures And Practices
We still have a lot of weird cultures and practices that should have been scrapped by now, such as Female Genital Mutilation and Scarification (Tribal Marks). Some of these practices and cultures are so old we wouldn’t need them moving into 2017.

3. Some Know Nothing About Modernisation
You might think that due to how far we’ve advanced, everybody in the country should know about a lot of things but it will surprise you to know that we still have people in the remote parts of the Afram Plains who have not even seen a mobile phone before although they have “wireless stereos”.

4. Some Tribes Still Farm With Elephants Yes!
We have tribes in the country in some deep part of the forest somewhere in the Brong Ahafo region who know nothing about how the world has changed and still wear straws as pants and farm with elephants. This was reported by tourists who came across them in 2012.
5. People Bury Money
The Kokomba tribe in Ghana still have a strong tradition where they bury money in the ground. The tradition is such that, the parents do this to determine who is the smartest among his children, any child who finds it and returns it to the father is not smart…hope you catch the drift. 6. Some Tribes Still Use The Padlock The Lobi people in the remote parts of the Upper West region still practice an art of beautification where they pierce holes in their mouth and lock it with a padlock.
