2 Kenyan-origin innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders have been featured in the 2017 edition of Forbes’ list of super achievers under the age of 30 who seek to break the status quo and transform the world.
The Forbes list has 30 game changers in 20 industries including healthcare, manufacturing, sports and finance. The categories for this year are Art & Style, Consumer Tech, Education, Energy, Enterprise Tech, Finance, Food & Drink, Games, Healthcare, Hollywood & Entertainment, Law & Policy, Manufacturing & Industry, Marketing & Advertising, Media, Music, Retail & E-commerce, Science, Social Entrepreneurs, Sports and Venture Capital.
The 600 in the list are:
“challenging the conventional wisdom and rewriting the rules for the next generation of entrepreneurs, entertainers, educators and more. They are passionate and formidable bunch, and for good reason. Their goal is nothing short of breaking the status quo and transforming the world.”
1. Muhga Eltigani – Cofounder, NaturAll Club
Muhga Eltigani decided to forego law school to work full-time with cofounder Sam Roberts on their startup NaturAll Club, a subscription e-commerce company with hair products geared towards women of color or those with curlier hair types. The company is fully bootstrapped, with Eltigani investing $18,000 of personal savings. The two source ingredients from Ghana and Malaysia.
2. Tahir Carl Karmali – Artist
Mixed-media artist Karmali was born and raised in Kenya before moving to Brooklyn. His portraits, focusing on “outlier communities,” incorporate photography, paper making and installations. He’s had exhibits throughout Africa, Europe, South America and in New York. He is also the creative director at limeSHIFT, a Brooklyn startup that helps companies boost their creative output by running workshops with employees and making office art installations like a pillar covered with photos of staff members at apparel maker Life is Good.
