Florida teen mistakes kid brother for intruder, shoots him
In an incident that will no doubt spark even more gun control debate, a 16-year-old boy mistakenly shot his 12-year-old brother, killing him. The teen was at the family’s Orlando, Fla., home when “he heard some noises and he called out for his brother and he didn’t answer, and so then his brother startled him,” Orlando Police Department Det. Mike Moreschi said. Thinking he was confronting an intruder, the teen picked up a gun and fired. Though he immediately called 911, it was too late. The teen will not be charged, say police, though the state attorney’s office will review the case for possible negligence. “He’s devastated, obviously,” offered Moreschi. “His parents are devastated by what happened, and it’s just a really bad situation for the family.” [Source]
