[OMG!Ghana]The stakes are always high and the razzmatazz that characterizes the gathering of the country’s music galaxy under one roof can be compared to none .No doubt,It is the biggest festival on our country’s musical calender.
The Pomp and pageantry was as usual not missing on the night but as expected a show which was supposed to start earlier obeyed the ‘Ghana Man Time’ laws.I must be the first to admit that but for the ‘over lightening’ on the stage this set-up would have met International Standards.Nonetheless I think it is the best we have had so far as far as the music awards is concerned.
THE RED CARPET.
Glitz and Glamour was on display as each attendant tried so much to come tops fashionwise. The Red Carpet saw the finest of designer names passing through. This was a clear diversion from the pre-event ‘noise’ which suggested that the night would be all ‘Sarked Up’.Well these Celebrities had other ideas (but did Sarkodie have to explain why his brand was expensive?).Host Benny Blanco was ‘on-point’ and in the highest of spirits but same can’t be said of ‘Mamaga’ Confidence Haugen whom apart from her time to time betrayal of the ‘Queen’s language’ proved to know less about the ‘Stars” who graced the VGMA Red Carpet.
BIG UPS PRODUCER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR!!!!!!
The Creative Director in my view gave the patrons of the show a worth of their money. He was consistent in ‘wowing’ the crowd from his first ‘trick’ of a “Liwin Hosted VGMA’ through to a well staged ‘Impromtu Invitation’ Of Mildred (Eazzy) and finally letting the crowd go ‘gaga’ with the appearance of Aketekyie and Nana Kontihene on stage (Indeed ghana has missed those days).8/10
K.O.D. & Eazzy Babe!!!!!
Her Eloquence transcends the ordinary, Infact She speaks English!!! No Locally Acquired Foreign Accent!! (unlike Criss Waddle).Need i say more?? Her demeanour and Stage craft makes her a potential ‘Grammy Awards Host’ . K.O.D (pronounced Kay-wo -di by LIWIN) was superb on the night but for his ‘excessive mouth running’ and ‘extreme jokes’ i would have given him 10/10
PERFORMANCES!!!
The creative ‘MadMan’ Kwaw Kesse was the best as usual. His energy and ‘Dum-sor” entry re-affirmed why he is one of the industry’s best performers.Sarkodie was disappointing (as well as R2bees) . But Sarkodie’s Entry with those ‘monks’ is usually seen by ‘Illuminati tagged western acts’,I doubt he is one but he indeed will get the media talking.Wizkid had nothing new to offer but his rather calm former boss Banky W put up quite a show on the night. I finally got to know Who the ‘Only Gospel Femal Rapper’ was. Indeed she was ‘born great’…Yes! GREAT. M.anifest and Amandzeba’s African Blend got the old folks on their feets. Fuse ODG had energy on stage (but nothing we haven’t seen before).Asem was ‘bad’ on stage as Usual. In all I would go for a 5/10 for performances.
WINNERS
It was Expected and Accepted by all, The ‘Portside’ boys from Tema Stole the night with Six Deserved Awards. Congrats R2Bees (especially Mugeez and KillBeatz). M.anifest pulled the rabbit out of the hat last night.Let the world know ‘HE IS GHANA’s NEW KING OF RAP’ (for one year). On the whole, there has been an improvement as far as fairness is Concerned. But KPMG, can we trust our pink sheets with you?? I am still wondering why Asem and Kwabena Kwabena’s ‘Bye Bye’ didn’t win the Best Collaboration of the year.I wasn’t however surprised when our very own ‘Irish Creamer’ won no award. But hey doomsayers! it is too early to say ‘Sark is down’. I can assure you that ‘The Beast will be Back!!! and was Bandana expecting to beat Kaakie for the Raggae/dancehall award??? Rather Ineresting!!!
In all it was a masterpiece. The best is yet to come! All Nominees are WINNERS.This could end up not being Yours Truly, Mawuli Pomary’s only review of the show.
Like an inscription on a bus in a popular Ghanaian TV series……..I SHALL RETURN!!!!
