The title of world’s oldest person is a hotly contested position, and a new contender has now emerged to claim the trophy: China’s Fu Suqing, who claims she celebrated her 116th birthday on July 19. She has reportedly applied to Guiness World Records to be recognized as the world’s oldest person. Despite being born in 1897, Suqing is said to be in pretty good health, aside from some hearing and eyesight problems. If her birthdate checks out, she’ll steal the title of oldest person from 115-year-old Misao Okawa (born March 5, 1989), who inherited it when 116-year-old Jiroemon Kimura died in June. [Source]
