Photos: How Ghanaians In Washington D.C, USA Mourned Late President John Evans Atta Mills

Friday August 10th, 2012, was a global day of mourning, as people remembered the life of the late President of Ghana, J.E Atta Mills. While the people of Ghana were mourning over Mills at Independence Square, Ghanaians in America were mourning over the late president at the Embassy of Ghana in Washington , D.C.  From 7pm to midnight,Ghanaian’s and other mourners attended the memorial program held at the Ghana Embassy in  Washington, D.C.  The program included scripture readings from  Romans 12:3-21 and Isaiah 25:1-12 , and various tributes from area associations, including the Old Achimotans Association , who sang the school motto and other popular school songs.

A Methodist  choir was in attendance to lead the mourners in hymns, including MHB 652, “Brief Life is Here our Portion” and MHB
831,”Give Me the Wings of faith to rise”. The scripture readings and sermon were followed by the traditional ceremony, which included prayers, a song by Ms. Juliana Arslanian, and drumming.  The remainder of the night was filled with dancing. The memorial service at the Embassy of Ghana in Washington , D.C gave mourners the opportunity to grieve while also celebrating the life of the dear late President, J.E Atta Mills.
