3 Things To Take Home From Tekno’s Latest Billboard Feature

We told you 2016 was Tekno’s year.

And from the look of things, 2017 will even be a better year for the Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer. Last year, Billboard featured him in their list of RnB and Hip-Hop artists to look out for in 2017. His very popular song, ‘Pana’ made him one of the top earning musicians of 2016 in Nigeria and even got him his first MAMA award for Best New Act all in 2016.

This year, the music royalty was the focus of a Billboard article and here are all the important things to take home from the article.

1. The beat to Pana wasn’t actually meant for him

Krizbeatz, the producer had no intention to give the beat to Tekno. It was supposed to be for someone else and when Tekno heard it, it reminded him of his song ‘Duro’ so much that he went upstairs and did justice to it and Pana was birthed.

2. Davido was instrumental to his fame

Tekno’s breakthrough single, Holiday in 2013 featured Davido and this gingered a lot of Nigerians to actually listen to what he had going on. Tekno returned the favour by producing his most recent single, If

3. Pana is slowly creeping in America

According to Imran Majid, senior vice president of A&R at Columbia, “Pana” has slowly but surely crept into American listeners’ consciousness.” There is an audience that know the record through the club scene – mixers, DJs

Speaking of Tekno, here are some of the people who couldn’t get enough of his Pana song.

14 Things You’ve Been Doing Wrong Your Entire Life

$
0
0

We are not saying you don’t know how to do these things, of course, you can, but you’re doing it differently from how the maker intended.

What if we told you, you’ve been cutting your cake wrong all this while, you won’t believe, right?

Check out 14 things you’ve been doing wrong your entire life.

1. Charging Your Phone.

The most common advice about charging phones is allowing the battery to drain out completely before charging, but that’s not the problem with lithium batteries, the problem is actually leaving it plugged in after reaching the 100% level, now that’s dangerous for your battery. When you do that, you put stress on your phone battery and this reduces the lifespan of the battery.

2. Cutting A Cake.

We know everybody thinks the best way to cut a cake is in triangles at the edges but this is actually wrong. Cutting it this way means you will be leaving it open which will dry up the insides, taking away all the flavour and sweetness of the cake. The right way to actually do it is to cut through the middle from one end to the other and when you’re done, you just push the cake back together to make it look full again, that way, the flavour and sweetness of the cake is preserved all the time.

3. Holding A Steering Wheel.

You might not have noticed this but you’ve been holding your steering wheel wrong all the time if you’ve been holding it from the upper part or the base. The right way is to hold it in the middle. This is because the airbag is situated in the middle of the steering wheel and so holding it at the upper part means your hands will be resting on the middle part and in the event of a collision when the airbag pops out, you’re likely to get your arm damaged.

4. Using Antiperspirant.

Of course, we all think the best way or only way to use an antiperspirant is right after bathing in the morning but that is actually the wrong way of using it. The right way is actually in the night before you go to bed so that the antiperspirant will do its job of entering your pores to give you that sweet smell in the morning. You’re wondering how we know this? Well, it’s actually written on the container.

5. Applying A Moisturiser.

Everybody actually rubs it into their skin but that’s the wrong way of applying a moisturiser to your skin, you’re actually supposed to dab it on your skin instead of smearing it on your skin.

moisturizer

6. Pouring Juice From Paper Box.

If you’ve realised, when you’re pouring juice out of its paper pack, you always spill some because of how it comes out. Well, you’re having this challenge because you’ve been doing it wrong all this while. Of course, it looks easy pouring it with the opening at the bottom but doing it that way is wrong. The right way is to rather turn the opening to the top before you pour.

7. Peeling A Banana.

Let’s make it easy for you, watch how a monkey peels its banana and you will understand us better. As humans, we actually peel a banana from the base, which is wrong and the reason why we always break it in half or have it topple and fall when we are done peeling. The right way is to peel it from the tip so the base which is the strongest part will hold the banana firm.

8. Washing Your Face.

What if we told you, you’ve been washing your face wrong all this while? Yeah! We know, you’re going to be like, “Yeah right! We’ve had enough of this”. But the fact still remains the right thing needs to be done and it is the reason why you’ve been fighting acne and other skin diseases your entire life. For women with makeup, wash your face with lukewarm water after taking off your makeup. When drying your face, don’t rub the towel on your face like you always do, just dab your face with it instead. This is because the skin on your face is sensitive and doing so only causes minor abrasions and openings for bacteria.

9. Using Razor Blades.

So what do you do with your razor blade when it becomes blunt, you dispose of it right? Well!! There is a better way of keeping it sharp and that is by running it on your jeans. So the next time you’re done shaving your armpit and the razor feels blunt, just run it on your jeans and you will be fine. This will save you money.

10. Packing Your Clothes In Your Drawer.

Do you know why you have problems selecting clothes from your wardrobe especially the drawers? It is because you’ve been packing it wrong all this while. If you’ve been packing it on top of each other, then you should know you’ve been doing it wrong and you will definitely face challenges when you need a particular one. To make things easy, it will be better to pack them sidewise so you can easily pull out a T-shirt you need.

11. Peeling A Mango.

There is an easy way of doing it and getting to the fruit the way you want it without any obstruction from the skin. To peel the mango, cut it in halves and scrape each piece against the rim of your glass and it will easily come off.

12. Holding A Beer Bottle.

You’ve been holding your beer bottle in the middle all this while and probably the reason why your beer gets hot in no time. Your body is warm, in a cold weather, it is warmer and so holding a beer bottle in the middle means you will be transferring your body heat to the bottle. This is why the long neck of the bottle was designed so you hold it from that angle to prevent your beer from getting warm in no time.

13. Rinsing Your Blender.

Don’t hurt yourself trying to wash it in a sink by dipping your hands in it, simply pour some liquid soap into the blender, add a little water and start it as if you’re blending. This is a more effective way of cleaning your blender.

14. Cutting Bread.

You’re having trouble cutting your bread because you’ve been doing it wrong your entire life This is why when you’re cutting, the bread either keeps flattening or breaking into crumbs all over the place. The best way to cut bread and not have any problem with it is from the underside. So turn it upside down and cut and you’re good to go.

7 Old School Kenyan Artistes Who Are Still Releasing Great Music

$
0
0

The lines between old school and new school music are blending more than ever.

A good number of Kenyan artistes who were popular when many of us were kids are still killing it in the game. A prime example of someone many could consider old school but they still reign supreme is Redsan. He remains one of the most popular artistes in the country and has been relevant for over 15 years. In the list below, you’d be surprised by just how many old school acts are still relevant.

1. Nonini.

Despite being one of the guys that made mainstream music popular, Nonini still drops hits. His latest song ‘Hii Ni Ya’ is an infectious musical composition with a video shot in Dubai. That’s a clear case of the legends still setting the standards. Which current Kenyan artistes has even thought of shooting a video in the UAE? It’s clear that the Genge Godfather doesn’t settle. Every time it’s felt like his career peaked, he finds new ceilings to chase.

2. Redsan.

Is it just me or does it seem like all female artistes nowadays want to collabo with Redsan? From Victoria Kimani to Vivian to Nyla. They all want a piece of him. Redsan always has something great to offer and he’s gifted with that superstar look. Plus, his willingness to not take himself too seriously (like when he released a Naija sounding jam) often pays dividends. Even his ‘Not Normal’ song is kinda catchy! You can never count him out.

redsan2

4. Nameless.

Nameless will never not be relevant. Thanks to his incredible voice, his undeniable charisma, and his infinite style, he’s forever just one flow away from the top of the charts. Whenever he puts himself the right position (like the way he dropped a Baganda tune) he’ll always guarantee a hit.

nameless kenya

5. Wyre.

Let’s be honest. Wyre is the gold standard of hard work in the Kenyan music industry. He has mastered his genre in a way no other Kenyan artiste has ever mastered theirs. Despite using the same singing style since he came out in the early 2000s, he continues to impress us with his longevity and ability to constantly redefine his brand as an artist.

wyre

5. Jua Cali.

Jua Cali is an original. There was never anyone like him before and there won’t be anyone after. But despite being close to two decades in the game, he’s still as hardworking as ever. He is a veteran artiste Jua Cali, but he is always full booked and he keeps fire burning by dropping a new jam every six months at least.

image : sde.co.ke

6. Sanaipei Tande.

Sanaipei isn’t as hugely popular as she was when she dropped tracks like ‘Kwaheri’, but she’s maintained artistic relevance longer than almost anyone in Kenyan music. She still appears in interviews too frequently you might be tempted to think she’s a shareholder in the media companies.  Her latest song ‘Amina’ is one of the most unusual of her career. It gets in your soul, without losing the kind of loose experimentation that found the singer divulging highly personal lyrics one moment and dropping irreverent party tracks the next, or bringing the two topics together on the same song.

Image: www.thomsonphotography.com

7. Wahu.

The one-time MAMA award winner isn’t the deadly force she once was, but she is still making huge moves in the game. She drops a song whenever she feels like and it always ends up doing well.

Growing up with a strict father was like walking on desert sand without shoes.

It always felt as though you were in a military camp. Mess up in any way and you would regret the day you were born. Here are things only people who had strict badass dads can relate to.

1. Taking your report card to him when you had not performed well was the most dreadful thing ever.

2. You would tremble when he called you from far because you didn’t know whether it was for a good or bad reason.

5. You would think and re-think before asking your father for something,

because you were afraid he would shut you down like Windows 10.

6. And you always had that wounded puppy look on your face when talking to him.

8. Sometimes he tried to teach you things you weren’t interested in, but you just had to pay attention. Lol.

9. Pure unadulterated panic channeled through your veins when one of your siblings reported you to him.

10. Conversations with him revolved around your academics and class schedule…everything else didn’t matter.

13. When he saw you weren’t happy, he would assure you that one day,

14. If you went to a boarding school, he would only show up on visiting day once in a while and bring nothing but a loaf and a newspaper.

15. It was better to lie than tell the truth. Always.

16. But sometimes lying was futile because he had lie detectors for eyes.

17. But right now you understand that he was just trying to be a good father to you…It’s all good.

Africans Are Being Attacked In India And A Kenyan Student Was A Victim

$

In Greater Noida, 18 miles southeast of India’s capital New Delhi, Africans are being attacked.

The attacks are mainly targeted towards Nigerians who locals believe are promoting a drug use culture in the area. The violence began over the weekend, following the death of a teenager in an alleged drug overdose.
The family of the deceased had filed a police report against five local Nigerian men, who are said to be engaging in the business of drug peddling. This angered the locals who went on a revenge mission.

Sadly, a Kenyan student has been caught in the melee too.

On the morning of Wednesday 29th March, a mob reportedly targeting Africans stopped a cab and dragged Maria Burendi, a 24-year-old Kenyan woman out then started beating her up, thinking she was Nigerian.

Here she is…getting treatment.

The student had left her house to collect an African wig and some food from a friend but on the way, the cab was stopped by some men who pulled her out then beat her up.

They stopped the car and asked me to get out. When the cabbie and I stepped out, they started slapping me saying that Nigerians are bad. When I said that I was a Kenyan, one of the guys asked them to stop and they relented.

The incident came just two days after a mob thrashed six Nigerians and a Congolese man. It is being reported that the fresh attack has left most Africans in the area too afraid to step out of their houses.

Watch the video about the incident below:

So yesterday, March 30, 2017, the Joe Ghartey committee set up to investigate a bribery allegation by some members of the minority against the vetting committee, presented its report to parliament.

As can be recalled, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central, accused then minister-designate, Hon. Boakye Agyarko, of bribing minority members on the committee to influence their decision over his vetting.

A 5-member committee was, therefore, established to investigate the claims and they presented their report to parliament yesterday where they found the MP culpable of contempt. He was therefore asked to render an unqualified apology to the house.

Many people love wearing caps but not may know how to wear them right.

Apparently, the cap first became popular in the 1950s when American baseball players adopted it as part of their uniforms. Then the 90s hit, and the cap officially became a part of hip-hop culture and popular fashion. The style was adopted by urban musicians across the US and thus it became a part of fashion.

In Kenya, DJ Joe Mfalme is one of the few people who look cool while wearing a cap backward.

Apparently, some neighbors issued a complaint, prompting police to show up and shut down the party.

Joe’s arrest was caught on video and in it, he is seen trying to resist as he is roughed up by cops. One officer even seems to hit him and he says ‘huwezi nichapa.’

Joe is said to have spent an hour in police custody in the incident that happened last weekend. He was rescued by the club’s management who came to bail him out.

After his release, he went back to entertain the revelers as it was scheduled.
