6 Reasons Why Your Hair Isn’t Growing

$

0

Ladies! (and gents!) sometimes we feel like we are doing every thing we can for our hair BUT IT JUST ISN’T GROWING.

Here are some possible reasons why you aren’t retaining length like you should, even if you are taking excellent care of your hair.

1. Refusing to trim your ends regularly (or appropriately)

Our ends are the oldest part of our hair and believe it or not there was a time when our ends were at the top of our heads. This means that they may need more attention and focus than the rest of the strand. They are also the weakest strands and so you need to be very careful how you maintain them.

Ends get damaged and worn down over time for many reasons, sun exposure, rubbing on our clothes or just normal manipulation. Perhaps your hair could be damaged from excessive heat or not sleeping with a satin pillowcase or bonnet. Whatever the reason, once ends are damaged, they cannot be repaired and the only solution is to trim so that the damage doesn’t travel up the hair shaft.

image

2. Poor personal health

Admit it, you are getting older. There are certain things you used to do in the past that are getting more tiresome as you get older. Same goes for your body. While the products we put on our hair are important, the things we put IN our bodies are even more important. A healthy diet is key for promoting and retaining length. A great start towards a healthier lifestyle is to simply start incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet. Another way is to start incorporating more water into your diet (and less alcohol teehee. I actually have a whole blog post on water here)

Some foods that are great for your hair include: salmon, walnuts, and spinach.  Also, don’t forget to take your vitamins, like Vitamin E, Fish Oils or if you are more adventurous, Biotin or Hairfinity  can do wonders for your hair, skin, and nails.

image

3. Constantly Using Heat

Honestly I think this is the most important reason why you may not be retaining length. Straightening your hair every single week is not really ‘okay’ unless you are fine with damaged/brittle hair.  Constantly using blow dryers, flat irons, or other straightening tools rob hair of its necessary moisture. Over time, the damage becomes more apparent, in that hair always seems dry, frizzy, and ends may become frazzled.

For the natural hair community, heat damage is especially appalling because it can alter the curl pattern. Heat damage may cause more frequent trims, because ends become weaker due to the excessive heat. Heat damage does not go away, especially once it’s become apparent, the only alternative is to grow out the damaged hair and cut it off.

1. Raindolf Owusu

raindolf_owusu

24, Ghana
Founder, Oasis Websoft

Owusu is a software engineer based in Accra, Ghana, and was dubbed the Mark Zuckerberg of Accra by FORBES AFRICA in November 2012. He runs Oasis Websoft, which developed the Anansi Web Browser – hailed as Africa’s first web browser.

“I believe software can solve many problems in Africa. Our problems on the continent are different and existing software from abroad are not built to suit the African setting. Propriety operating systems are being entrenched into our society and we spend so much money paying for licenses on these softwares. I decided to build a company that will address this problem and develop homegrown software,” says Owusu.

His most recent projects include Anansipedia, an education platform that allows less privileged students to share educational resources; and Bisa, a mobile application that supplies information to the public and gives them access to doctors. Some of his other notable projects include Dr Diabetes, a web application that educates Africans about diabetes.

“We hope in a few years we can expand our operations in other parts of Africa and to build a digital hub where Africans can learn more about emerging disruptive technologies like 3D printers, drones and how they can be used to improve our lives,” says Owusu.

2. Sangu Delle

1-SANGU DELLE-OnoBello-708

28, Ghana
Founder, Golden Palm Investments

Delle is a co-founder of Golden Palm Investments, a holding company that invests in startups across Africa. Some of the entrepreneurs on this list have benefited from his investments. Golden Palm Investments focuses on real estate, healthcare, agriculture and technology. Delle showed entrepreneurial promise while in school. He sold his homework to classmates to earn money to travel to the United States, where he had accepted a scholarship. He is also the co-founder of cleanacwa, a non-profit that provides clean water in Ghana’s underdeveloped regions. Sangu, who previously worked at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Valiant Capital Partners, is currently an MBA candidate at Harvard.

Sarkodie’s ‘New Guy’ Can’t Be Compared To ‘Telemo’ – Gasmilla

Ga rapper, Gasmilla says Sarkodie’s ‘New Guy’ song with Ace Hood, is nowhere close to his hit song ‘Telemo’.

The rapper in an interview on Hitz FM in Accra said he does not understand why people have started comparing Sarkodie’s new song to his number one hit song.

“With no disrespect to Sarkodie, I don’t understand why people are even comparing the two songs, ‘Telemo’ is Afro beat and his is hiphop. So I mean if you should put both of them to a test at any gathering, be it a big gathering or small gathering, his would be the song people will listen to and mine will be the song people will bump to.”
Gasmilla was reacting to an editorial which said
“#LetMeExplain: To All the People Who Dislike Sarkodie’s “New Guy”; Please Stick To Gasmilla’s Telemo” published on YFMGhana last week.
He said this comparison came about because of the expectations from Ghanaian concerning the ‘New Guy’ song which did not meet it.
“They were thinking Sarkodie’s ‘New Guy’ song with Ace Hood on it would have shot from nothing to number one and it is not doing that yet so I think it is the reason why they are comparing it to the biggest song at the moment which is my song ‘Telemo’.”

Poor Monitoring Systems Blamed For Floods In Accra

Real estate experts talk of the need to build proficiently

A real estate expert, Emmanuel Gyane, has attributed Accra’s perennial floods mainly to a lack of monitoring systems in the city.

Emmanuel Gyane, Chief Executive Officer of real estate company Altheo Ventures Limited, said that Accra’s perennial floods could be mitigated if city officials would impose measures to prevent the construction of buildings on waterways.

Mr. Gyane explained that constructing a building on a waterway blocks the free flow of water bodies and, as a result, causes floods when it rains. He advocated the introduction of measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“I think there is a gap between Accra’s building planning system and implementation. The plans have been rightly drafted but adherence to it is poor.

Some individuals build on waterways without going through the right process. There is the need for authorities to put measures in place to prevent this from happening,” he continued.

Mr. Gyane also noted that an absence of building inspectors on construction sites had led to some developers taking undue advantage of the situation, despite the fact that these inspectors were responsible for ensuring that building projects were completed under strict specifications.

He added that the law mandates all individuals in the country to go through a required process of surveying a piece of land, hiring an architect to supervise building plans, and obtaining a building permit before beginning construction.

Subsequently, building inspectors are supposed to be dispatched to the construction site to verify that building requirements are followed. However, building inspectors are typically absent from the project site during construction.

“When construction begins, building inspectors are supposed to visit the site to ensure that the developer is building in accordance with the permit.

However in Ghana, it is typical to find them inspecting only project sites being developed by big companies. Others are overlooked, leading to some exploiting the situation to put up improper buildings,” he said.

Mr. Gyane finally spoke on the need for households to help reduce flooding in Accra by keeping their gutters and surroundings clean. He suggested that the reintroduction of systems would ensure a strict adherence to good sanitation among the public.

“The public’s attitude towards sanitation is also worrying. We do not have any system in place that would allow fines to be handed to individuals who litter the streets and choke gutters. This system was practiced ages ago and we need something similar today,” he concluded.

Akua Nyame-Mensah, Managing Director of Lamudi Ghana said,

“We all have to play a part in ensuring that our environment is able to appropriately deal with the annual rains. As Accra continues to develop and become even more urbanized and vertical, it will be important that areas that were marked as waterways are cleared.

Water needs to be able to make its way back into the ground and areas that are covered over with cement and buildings produce runoff that can damage or flood lower lying areas or property,” she said.

The latest buzz in town is Sarkodie and Ace Hood’s joint which apparently cost $25,000 to get the American rapper to jump on it.

Many have questioned the amount with some saying it’s too much for just a feature. This argument lead us to conduct our very own investigation online to find out how much other international stars charge per feature.

The result is that the $25k charged by Ace is very cheap with regards to these artistes. Jay Z takes between $200,000 and $500,000 to jump on a track. So when he says, “the rock is in the building”, you know what he’s talking about.

Ghanaian Musicians Are Full Of Lies – Tinny

Ga rapper Tinny, is set to expose the lies of his fellow musicians in his yet to be released new single, “Mini Yaanor”.

Tinny in an interview with yfmghana.com said his song will touch on how Ghanaian musicians throw dust into the eyes of the public.

In the interview, he was quoted to have said that;

“The motive of the song is to reveal how some Ghanaian artistes behave. We are lying too much to our fans, we shouldn’t speak about things we don’t have.

Artists say they have bought this and for that amount while they don’t even know the selling price. I also want to tell people the truth because that’s what the loyal fans deserve.

This song is for the fans of Tinny who held me down from day one. This is a single off the album that will drop in September. The song is produced by Hype Lyrix.”

He also talked about his performance at the just ended Ghana Music Awards.

“I wasn’t surprised with the reaction of the people because when DJ Black mentioned my name, the cheers were loud and so I was very hyped to give them the best.

I saw them coming on stage and I thought they were coming to give me the normal flow. But when they got on stage I was wowed with what they did and said. And for Joey B to call me a god, that was something else.

I don’t believe he meant I’m a god of music because I have been around for a long time and still doing it. It was out of the blue and those two are doing really well. I’m thinking of doing a song with them.”

I respect Kumawood a lot. They are very hardworking people; most of the things that you hear are not true. If I had my way; I would relocate to Kumasi and work with them.”
