The Sound of Music was one of the greatest movies we all watched as children.
The movie told the story of Maria, the tomboyish postulant at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven children and brings a new love of life and music into the home.
Years after this movie was made, here are some facts we’re pretty sure you didn’t know about the movie. (We were pretty shocked to find out some of them as well)
1. It is based on a real life group of singers
Yes, the Von Trapp family singers were one of the world’s best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II and the Sound of Music is indeed their story.

2. The lead actor, Christopher Plummer hated the movie
Just when you thought that Captain Von Trapp’s face was really just like that because it was how the script expected it to look like. Um, no. He hated the movie so much he referred to it as the Sound of Mucus and S&M.

3. Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer had to take guitar lessons for the movie
Prior to the movie, the actors who played Fraulein Maria and Captain Von Trapp had no knowledge of playing the guitar and hence, had to learn because they played it on the show.

4. Julie Andrews almost turned down the role of Maria
Julie Andrews was this close to turning down Maria because she felt it was close to what she did as Mary Poppins. Imagine who would have done it better than she did? Just who?

5. Chairman Carr was attracted to Christopher Plummer
Chairman Carr who played Liesl, eldest daughter of Captain Von Trapp was attracted to Christopher Plummer. It didn’t go beyond flirting, but well she put it down in her autobiography.

6. The story of the Von Trapps was not accurately depicted
Agreed it’s a real life story but the real story of the Von Trapps was played around with. For one, Captain Von Trapp wasn’t very stern and he had ten children, not seven. Also, the real Maria von Trapp left the convent to tutor one child, not to be governess to all the children. And she wrote that she liked the captain, but loved the children so for her, it was like she was marrying the children.

Which of these facts surprised you the most? My bet is on either 2 or 5!
