6 of 7 billion people have cellphones, 4.5 billion have toilets

Priorities, priorities, priorities. Six billion of world’s 7 billion people have cellphones, but only 4.5 billion have a toilet, says a shocking UN report. The UN reports 22 emerging economy nations account for 80 percent of humanity’s “open defecation.” India, for example, accounts for 60 percent of that number, yet has gone from 45 million phones to 1 billion cellphones since 2002. UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson has called upon world leaders to halve the number of people without toilets by 2015, though if we’re being honest about what people in those countries appear to really be interested in, we’d work on getting them unlimited texting.
