Fast-rising Kenyan singer Phy Mwihaki Ng’etich was last weekend featured on CNN’s African Voices.
This is a 30-minute weekly magazine program that focuses on young people making big strides in Africa. It is sponsored by data company, Globacom.
Tanzania’s music sensation, Diamond Platnumz and Senegal’s Mao Sidibe were also guests on the show. This was a big achievement for Phy who came into the limelight last year after her songs ‘Taboo’ and ‘Ruka’ featuring King Kaka and Khaligraph Jones hit the airwaves.

Phy’s incredible talent came to the fore early when at only eight years old she won the overall number one position at the Kenya Music Festival for the solo classical piece in her age category.
She formed her own group ‘Phy And The Band’ in 2011 and their sound was heavily influenced by the Afro/Urban genre. But it was only until she went solo that she found mainstream success. She calls her genre PHY-music.
Judging from her Instagram posts, Phy was super thrilled after being featured on African voices. Check out her posts below.
That ‘Mama I made it’ moment.
And since a photo only can’t express the joy, she had to record it too.
