The NBC To Investigate Why Big Brother Nigeria Is Being Held In South Africa

Big Brother Nigeria is on and we’ve been following up with all the drama that the housemates have to offer.

BBNaija

Image: Africa Magic

The show started on Sunday, the 22nd of January and is filmed in South Africa. This caused an uproar on social media as many Nigerians couldn’t understand why a reality show for the country was filmed in a foreign land

According to Multichoice, this is the reason why the show is set in South Africa.

We have a fully equipped house in South Africa which is used for the Big Brother shows. For the Voice, our approach was pretty much the same. The venue is already set up with all facilities required for the successful execution of the show; this means that we are able to achieve high production values whilst meeting tight timelines/deadlines and ensuring the show comes to our viewers on time, as planned, and with the same globally renowned quality. Whilst the house is based in South Africa, the BBN show is 100% Nigerian, with fully Nigerian housemates and content.

But a lot of Nigerians are not having any of it.

And so the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to investigate the shooting of the show in Abuja.

Image: Daily Mail NG

In the statement, the minister told the NBC to determine whether Multichoice, by shooting the show in South Africa, has breached the Nigerian Broadcasting Code in any way.

And so we await the NBC’s report on the Big Brother Nigeria situation.

Until then, catch up more on the #BBNaija show: here are the contestants vying for the prize money and our first impressions of them so far

Just A Few Times Brymo’s Tweets Have Totally Left Us Confused

Brymo is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and composer who is well known for his very unique blend of music.

We love a lot of Brymo’s songs like his soft traditional ballad ‘Fe Mi’ which is one of our favourite Nigerian love songs all day, every day. Not to talk about the others on his albums.

But one thing we don’t like about Brymo? His twitter presence.

More often than not, Brymo has convinced us to listen more to his music and forget his twitter and here are some of the classic proofs of that

1. This time when he said “we like to suffer”

Because we don’t get it oh

2. Or do we talk about this time when he said school is not for everyone

Because the person asked for help?

3. Or this one about hell and good people

And we really can’t just strike the balance

4. And another L at the black person

Who is lazy and illogical? Ta ni?

5. Um say what?

LOL this may just be the funniest of all

What do you think? Did these tweets leave you confused as well? Or can you relate to them?

While you’re doing this, check out some of the times Nigerian celebrities forgot home training and gave epic clap backs to people.

2face is very vocal about politics and the state of the country. He took to his Instagram page to announce that he will be a part of the ‘First Nationwide Protests’ on the 5th of February, 2017.

FIRST MASSIVE NATIONWIDE PROTESTS ON THE 5TH OF FEBRUARY, 2017. A call for good governance. A call for urgent explanation into the reckless economic downturn nationwide. A call for nationwide protests as we say No to the Executive, No to legislatures, No to judiciary… You have all failed us. We the people are tired. We can no longer continue with all of you. All your excuses and mistakes are not funny. We do not wish to continue with a system and government that is not working but afflicting the people. We the people of this country not living under the privileges of government allowances and remuneration have now accepted to take the bull by the horn to come out and protest this obnoxious and baseless policies and excuses of the government of the day. Where are the recovered looted funds? Why do we still have the executive arms and legislatures still enjoying their salaries and allowances while we hear there's no money to pay workers? Why do we still see ceaseless power failures with no explanation and hope of getting out of it unlike before? Why do we keep seeing peace talks in Niger Delta, fulani heardsmen and ipob without any solutions being reached, while the strategies keeps aggravating the people involved as political leaders stage forums to extort funds in the name of addressing their subjects? Why did we have petrol price rise to 145 for the sake of global oil price crash and removal of subsidy but such price is still being maintained despite significant re-awakening of the oil price from $30/barrel to $56/barrel? Who is to be held accountable for the sudden and continuous hike in price of commodities in the market, where for the first time in history, Nigeria is suddenly selling kerosene at 400 naira per litre as against 50 naira per litre, diesel at 300 naira per litre as against 100 naira per litre and petrol from 87 naira to 145 naira? Yet maintaining the same systems, environment and maybe a lesser money spending government. There's need for Nigerians to rise against what is happening in this country having waited patiently for the legislatures that were elected to represent the people all to no avail. How can there be rise in

Janet Mbugua Reveals How A Judge Discouraged Her From Being A Model Back In The Day

Citizen TV News Anchor, Janet Mbugua is one hell of a beauty.

In another Universe, I think me and her would be married with cute fat babies. But that’s a fantasy for another day.

It’s thus surprising that back in the day, one modeling judge never saw her as all that hot or tall enough.

Image: JanetMbugua/Instagram

Writing for her blog ‘officialjanetmbugua.com’ the TV anchor revealed how her first attempt to audition as a model was a disaster.

I auditioned to be a runway model! Now, I’m 5’5, but I didn’t let this bother me, even though the first casting call I was sent to was filled with long legged, amazonian structured gals and guys. I somehow made one of the cuts…it was over 15 years ago so that part remains blurry…”

When my turn came I decided to be cliche, because I honestly wasn’t even sure what I was doing in that room! I said I wanted to be a runway model and before I could finish, Mentor X interrupted me, ‘How tall are you again?’ ‘5’5?’ I half asked and answered. ‘Stop right there; you’ll never make it to the runways, so you need to pick a different dream. Be realistic’. Her words verbatim. The room went silent with everyone trying not to look me in the eye. Of course it stung because it just felt unnecessary. Plus I was only 17 years old…

However, the corrosive words didn’t put her down completely. To prove the judge wrong, she went for other auditions until she was successful in one that took her to Malaysia.

In your face evil judge!!!

in your face meme

Image: meme happen

She said:

I’m not sure how I picked myself up from that but something in me clicked. I had to choose to believe in me if no one else did. I’m so glad I made that decision! I would later walk the runways of Malaysia…

Janet still does a couple of modeling stuff here and there. It’s inspiring to see that one person’s words didn’t put her down. Many of us get discouraged by little things yet we would actually make it if we kept on pushing. The mantra is ‘never give up.’ Always adhere to it.

Persistence pays. You might also want to read about Janet Mbugua’s nasty experiences with house girls.

Have you been dreaming of the perfect wedding dress to wear at your wedding?

Well, you have a chance to do so because Singer Kambua is giving other brides a chance to wear her beautiful wedding dress.

Kambua got married 5 years ago to Businessman and Pastor Jackson Mathu.

She had a garden wedding at Windsor Golf And Country club with many celebrities in attendance.

So what made her offer up her wedding dress?

Kambua said she had been asked before to give away her dress but she had always resisted.

My search for "the perfect dress" 5years ago led my maid of honor and I, to a little antique store in St. Louis, MO. You know how "they" say, you just know? I just knew when I saw it, that this #maggiesottero Haute Couture Imperial wedding gown was the perfect one for me. After the wedding, many brides asked me if I could rent it out? It was a no brainer- NO! I was attached! Lol. But this, as you well know, is my #yearofyes and so when @dream_gown_rentals asked, I said, "YES" to letting other brides experience the magic of this dress.💒 Call them 📞0720-499-719 to book an appointment. 💐 (📷 @urban_studiophotography 💄@phoinatosha Hair @darling_ke @amadivabeautysalon) #maggiesottero #sotteroandmidgley #dreamdress #lace #embroidery #beads #flowers #details #rhinestones #2017 #yearofyes #africangirl #IamKenyan @maggiesotterodesigns

8 Important Things Every Nigerian Needs To Know About Consent

$

Rape culture is a topic frequently shushed up in the Nigerian society.

This is because some things are seen as taboos. Things that are better left alone and shouldn’t be talked about. Recently on social media, Nigerians took to sharing their views on rape and consent.

This open discussion has led many people to believe that many Nigerians are not aware of what constitutes consent. The dictionary defines consent as:

permission for something to happen or agreement to do something.

You can give or withdraw consent. Sexual assault and rape are things we wish would vanish from our society. Here are some things every Nigeria needs to understand about consent:

1. No means No!

When someone says no to sex, it doesn’t mean convince me. No also means no touching!

Consent quote

Image: Tumblr

2. A visit is Not consenting to sex

One of the most common complaints women made during this online discussion was how visiting a member of the opposite sex is seen as consent to sex. Visiting a member of the opposite sex isn’t consenting to intercourse!

Consent quote

Image: Pinterest

3. Saying yes to one thing is Not saying yes to sex

Someone can say yes to kissing but not sex. Let’s learn the difference. Consenting to one thing isn’t consenting to another. Always ask!

Consent quote 2

Image: Pinterest

4. Reluctance isn’t consent

Maybe is Not consent. When someone is not sure and you have to cajole them, that is not considered consent. Consent is usually enthusiastic.

Consent quote

Image: Pinterest

5. Yesterday’s consent is Not today’s consent

Just because your partner said yes yesterday doesn’t mean he/she will say yes today. Ask them and respect their choice whether they give consent or not.

Consent quote

Image: Pinterest

6. Nobody is your property

We as a nation should respect people’s rights to their bodies. No matter how much you want intercourse, avoid forcing people into doing what they are not comfortable with.

Consent quote

Image: Tumblr

7. Consent is sober

Just because your crush is drinking doesn’t mean they want to have sex. Drinking isn’t the same as saying yes to sex!

Consent quote

Image: Pinterest

8. Consent can be withdrawn at any time

Many people are not aware that consent can be withdrawn at any time. If your partner says stop, please stop and find out what is wrong. Always respect the other party’s right to say no and withdraw consent even if it has been given previously.

20 Names Of Places Ruined By Accra Trotro Mates

The trotro mate in Accra is the only person who has the mandate to rename places in the country without any legal implication.

So far, they have their own way of pronouncing all the names of places in Accra and what you’ve been hearing them shout out is not the exact name of the place and so in case you got confused due how they called the place, here are the right names of the places and how they renamed it.

1.

trotro ghana

2.

trotro ghana

3. The “R” and “L” in our pronunciations are a big problem for us and so instead of saying “Barrier” you commonly hear them say, “beelia”.

trotro ghana

4.

trotro ghana

5.

trotro ghana

6. To pronounce the whole word is always tedious for them and so long names of places such as “Adenta barrier” has now become “denta burial”.

Place note that the place has got nothing in common with a burial grounds.

trotro ghana

7. The right name of the place is actually “Flat Top” but since pronouncing the words together sounds like “Frytol” which is a common product in the country, they decided to rename it as such.

trotro ghana

8.

trotro ghana

9. And the “Blockcastle” you always hear them say is not actually “blockcastle” but “broadcasting”.

trotro ghana

10. This should have been simple because it is a local name but unfortunately, they feel it was not properly named because it is too long so they’ve shortened it to “Tesh Ngua”.

trotro ghana

11. “Mallam Atta” is the name of the place but they felt bringing “ma” again in the middle of the words was straining the tongue so they decided to do away with the M.A. in there and made it “Malata”.

trotro ghana

12.

trotro ghana

13. Only God knows how they ended up renaming a four letter word into a five letter word.

trotro ghana

14.

trotro mates accra

15.

trotro ghana

16.

trotro ghana

17. This is one of the only places they renamed and it has been accepted by everybody in the country as the official pronunciation of the word.

The word is pronounced, /kəˈpriːs/ but they renamed it to, cup rice and it has been widely accepted by everybody.

trotro ghana

18.

trotro ghana

19.

trotro ghana

20. Only God knows why they decided to rename a toll gate to “Colgate”.

Funny enough, when they get to a toll gate, they pronounce it properly but when it gets to scouting for passengers, they change it to “Colgate”.

Here are 12 names of places they have ruined.

1. The bus stop to the Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science Technology is affectionately called Tech, which is short for Technology even with that, the Kumasi trotro mate still goes further to shorten it by renaming the place, “Te” instead of “Tech”.

21 Awesome Stories From Our English Books In Primary School That Made Our Day

Remember those days back in school when the English teacher will distribute English Text Books and ask the class to read stories and we later answer questions about the stories?

Yeah, we really loved the stories and even now, we can’t forget some of them.

Here are 21 of such great stories.

1. Mr Boamah’s Shop

The story of how two children always purchased their foodstuff for breakfast from Mr Boamah’s shop is so interesting you can get the whole class reciting it in unison whenever we are asked to read.

mr. boamah's shop

2. Look To Yourself

One amazing poem by Agnes Esi Mensah that inspired most kids back then to become poets today. It was so touching and inspiring, kids back then closed from school reciting it all the way home and during “Our Day” and it’s poem time, every kid wants to recite this poem. You remember those days? Now that was the ish.

Now for those who still wish to have it, here you go:

For all things look to yourself first
You have all things, and you’ll ne’er thirst.
Your land has many things great and good
Rich soils, water and other things.
Do not go to friends cap-in-hand,
Honey and milk flow in your land,
Don’t say, “Grass is green at their feet”
For grass is greener at your feet.
You have got all the richest gifts
Others have not got half your gifts.
Look to yourself, then, and be great!
Use all that you have, and be great.
Life is how you use what you have.
Now how you use what others have.
This is true independence.
Let’s be truly independent.

3. Ata Panyin and Ata Kakra

Panyin and Kakra was actually a very sad story but we all loved it because it touched our soul. Most of us felt bad about how the skull of the twin that sung to the grandmother and his brother.

4. Alidu And His Goat

Do you remember the story of Alidu and his Talking Goat? This story actually got the whole class laughing out loud when it gets to the part where the goat goes, “Pu me me pu me” and never responded to Alidu when he said the goat could actually talk and it didn’t and where it finally asked the people what they were going to do with the master? now that part got every kid laughing more.

5. The Hawk and The Hen

“Krekete…So ya!! Nka me yare anka…so ya!!! nka me bu no ha…so ya!!!” Do you remember that story? Well, it was one hell of an interesting story we all loved. We know you’re smiling now.

6. A Market Day At Asesewa

A market day at Asasewa was also another fabulous story most of us loved because it highlighted on what really happens at the market, which most of us, especially the boys were ignorant of because we don’t accompany our parents to the market.

7. The Little Black Cat

“Mr. Kumah had two children, Mensah and Dede…” Do you remember this line? If you don’t then you were born in the late 90’s. We know people who can still remember every bit of this story to the end because they memorised it.

8. I Can’t Be Bothered

This was one story that really taught us lessons which clearly describes why you should have a bucket of water close by when you see a friend’s beard on fire because you might be next.

9. Bonwire Kente

“Asante Bonwire Kente de3 me nhu bi da…” then it gets to the part that goes like, “Kro kro kro kro..hii hii hii hii…kro hii kro na aye me de oh! na aye me de” now that is the part that gets everybody singing along in class including those who couldn’t read and didn’t even know what we were talking about.

10. Why The Crab Lost It’s Head

One interesting story that really stuck with most of us and educated us on how to choose our friends and taught us a great lesson. It also taught us that although kindness is good, it can also be your downfall, the reason why you have to be careful with the kind of friends you have. The crab lost it’s head because it trusted its friends so much to the extent it had to lend its head to a friend who never returned it.

crab lost his head

11. The Elephant And The Tsetsefly

No matter how small you’re, you do have your own power too and till you find out how to use it, you will always be at the mercy of those bigger than you and that is a lesson we learned from the “Elephant and The Tsetse fly”. At first sight, everybody would have imagined the elephant can easily crush the tsetse fly, but at the end of the day, the tsetse fly overpowered the elephant, using its brains.

12. My Grandfather’s Clock

You remember the part that goes like, ” My Grandfather’s clock was too large for the shelf, so it stood ninety years on the floor. It was taller by half than the old man himself, though it weighed not a pennyweight more” then comes the most interesting part where every child in the class nods their heads and sing along gleefully, “And it stopped short, never to go again, when the old man died. Ninety years without slumbering, tick, tock, tick, tick, It’s life seconds numbering, tick tock, tick, tock, And it stopped short, never to go again, when the old man died”. Life was so good back then.

13. A Visit To Paga

Another great story that taught us more about our tourism sites in Ghana. Back then most of us had never visited some of these tourism sites but with this story, which gave us a vivid description of what happens at the site, we were able to tell others as if we’ve ever been there before and till date although some people have never been, the memory of this story still make them feel like they’ve ever been there and speak of it as if they’ve truly been there.

14. Unity Is Strength

“Praye wo ho yi, wo yi baako a, na abu, wo ka bom a, e mbu” a great lesson that got to us easily from this great story at the time. This is one of the stories that really got our attention back in the days and the class went dead silent during its reading.

15. Red Lions And Green Hawks (A.K.A Obiba J.K.)

The red and the blue team is one funny story every kid in primary school loved especially when it gets to how Obiba J.K. scored. Some good footballers back in school those days, even nicknamed themselves Obiba J.K.

obiba jk

16. Agyei Ne Mmoatia

A story that taught us not to be greedy and that luck for one cannot be luck for all.

17. Mr. Gyebi And His Sons

Another favourite story in the early mornings of the day in class that always puts a smile on our faces…kids!!!

18. Faati And The Fishes

Then comes Faati’s interesting story that always caught our attention

19. The Sparrow And The Frog

Another great advise for us that also admonishes us not to look down on the intelligence of others

20. Two Friends And Their Little Canoe

An interesting story about two friends and their canoe. One we all wish back then we were part of the fun they had.

21. A Lost In The Forest

When some friends decided to go snail hunting, little did they know they will end up getting lost in the forest, a very captivating story back in the days that got us all hooked.

6 Very Popular Chants By Ghanaian Football Fans That Makes Us Excited AF

Football is what we eat in Ghana, it is the only sports most of us are addicted to and love.

Chants are part of soccer all over the world and Ghanaian fans are not an exception.

1. Ofu, Realll!!!

We chant this to distract the opponent – SIMPLE. Whenever the opponent kicks the ball, all the spectators will shout, “Ofu” and when our team gets the ball we will all shout “Real!!!” to boost their morale.

2. Corner! Corner!! No Goal.

When the opponent gets a corner kick, this chanted to diffuse any attempt at goal.

3. Away!!!

This comes with a special kind of handclap during a penalty kick or free kick. Every spectator keeps shouting and clapping “Away” to signal the ball going away from the goal.

Christian Thompson/Backpagepix

4.  Over the bar! Over the bar!

This is used in the same manner as “away” minus the handclaps.

5. Wo de akorto center (taking to the center).

This is actually meant to boost the morale of the team when they lose.

6. Papa abodwese mu mkorabata.

This chant is used to boo the opponents and it’s a kind of funny insult to demoralise them.
