10 Ways You Know You’re Having A Good ‘Nigerian’ Day

$
0
0

So you wake up in the morning, say a thank you prayer to The Almighty and ask amongst other things that Oluwa blesses your efforts.

But in Nigeria it goes beyond saying a prayer and having a grand expectation that things go exactly the way you’d want them to.

Well I’ve made a list of things that indicate you’re having not just a beautiful day but a ‘God-win day.’

Credit Alert

11109139_854663831272410_1215316223_n

No matter how bad your day might be going, no matter how annoying and frustrating work can get, everybody love to a good pay day. That awkward moment when you’re so angry and your sms alert sounds, you check the flash message on your mobile screen and see

“Credit alert: N 000.00000.0000”

Football Season

Third-World-Success-Kid

When it’s a home run for your favorite team. That can be so refreshing. I have friends who get so grumpy and grouchy when they lose a match, some even lose their appetite. Really!!! One time I got a cash gift from a friend, why? His team won a soccer match.

Pleasant Boss

HT_sam_griner_then_02_jef_150413_12x5_1600

Everyone hates a horrible boss. The kind that just keeps piling work on your table with short timelines to get it done. Imagine coming to work and you’re done with work by noon. How beautiful can that be? Then your boss walks up to you and invites you to lunch then tells you to take the day off afterwards? Okay!!!!!

Traffic-Free day

readImage

Imagine sleeping through the morning and somehow your internal body alarm doesn’t wake you up, your alarm blares and still you’re deep in sleep, only to wake up at 7am! Well you rush in and out of the bathroom in 5 minutes, jump in the car and all the traffic junctions give you a green light, and you make work at 8am! Now that’s a cool way to start your almost messed up day.

PHCH 24hours Light

maxresjjdefault

Everyone knows the power situation in Nigeria, it gets worse with the dry season. But then PHCN decides to behave and give you light the whole day. Now that’s definitely a good one. It’s even worth celebrating. Most times we’d call our neighbors or friends and even talk about it, like “o boy light dey 24/7 today o, how far?”

Boy’s night out

IMG_20141202_213833

So madam hates it when you come home late, why? I went to watch soccer with the guys at a viewing center or at one of your buddy’s house. “We don’t like enjoy watching soccer alone at home, it’s more fun with the guys or in public.” Somehow you call to let her know you’d be a bit late expecting that sad tome, but then she happily tells you “Have fun babe, And say me hi to the guys, and please buy me suya on your way back.” Thank you Lord!!!!

Clean House

Bzl8TzyCQAEN7RX

I don’t know about you but everybody loves coming home to a clean and tidy house. Imagine having 4 boys ranging from 3-12. Now that’s half a football team. Imagine the destruction. But today, you open the front door, walk in carefully so you don’t trip and fall cos of a toy left somewhere, somehow you manage not to. Rewind—it’s a clean house. What happened? Rapture? Nah they are at Grandma’s. Phew!!!

No Car Problem

Black-Guy-Meme-Face-03

You’re the busy type, you’ve got car issues and keep forgetting to stop by the mechanic. The kick starter wouldn’t stop mis-behaving, suddenly today it behaves. Now that’s a good one too.

TV Cable shows your favorite soap back 2 back

rrrasd

Working class mom. You missed your favorite show on Zee World or telemundo. It’s the weekend and you’re bored. You switch on the TV and there it is. Episode 1-5 showing back to back. O God loves me you whisper to yourself, kick off your flip flops and enjoy the show darling. You earned it.

You win the lottery

5oq9Qap

Now this is the best. Words can’t describe the excitement. “This is the best day ever!!!!!!!!”

“Asem mp3 nipa, nipa na 3p3 asem” – loosely translated as “trouble doesn’t find people, it’s rather people who often put themselves into trouble”

Matters tend to escalate when you’re famous as the media tends to have a field day with your plight.

Here are some famous Ghanaians who have been accused of serious crimes.

1. Alfred Agbesi Woyome – Fraud

Till date Woyome’s alleged case of swindling the state to the tune of ¢51.2 Million ($13 Million) judgement debt is still one of the hottest topic on most radio stations. Woyome has reportedly said he’s on track to repay back the money in a few months.

2. Wanlov & Wisa – Indecent Exposure

Indecent exposure is a serious crime in most countries, apparently not in Ghana. These two gentlemen decided to harass the nation by showing their manhoods on TV and on stage.

wisa-g

3. Bulldog – Murder

He was the prime suspect in Fennec Okyere’s murder, he was arrested and set free. Months later, his artiste, Shatta Wale made an interesting revelation which should have rekindled the case, but Bulldog is still walking as a free man.

4. Pope Skinny – Fraud

Pope Skinny flaunts money on social media which has opened him to many accusations of internet fraud. Nothing has been done about the accusation. Pope Skinny asserts this public suspicion through his songs; he once even had a song called “Mugu”, which praised internet fraud as a lucrative business. In other parts of the world, a mere call to the police about a suspicious behavior will get you a visit by the police but not in Ghana.

Pope Skinny’s moneySo how did Pope Skinny and his friends make all that money?

Posted by OMGVoice on Thursday, December 31, 2015

5. Criss Waddle – Fraud

Criss Waddle, just like Pope Skinny has been accused of internet fraud, whether true or not, his extravagant lifestyle on social media always sparks these accusations.

6. Kwaw Kese – Use Of Drugs

Kwaw Kese smoked ‘weed’ publicly in Kumasi, was arrested for a few weeks and bailed. It’s worth noting that many people who are arrested for the same reason end up rotting behind bars.

7. Shatta Wale – Slander

Shatta Wale has been troublesome since he bounced back into stardom. He has virtually disrespected everybody in the entertainment realm, which even got him a ban from the 2016 Ghana Music Awards. One of his utterances got him a lawsuit, another one of his misconduct also got him a writ to refund an amount he took to perform at a show. All these and more, he still apparently has no worries.

8. John Dumelo – Scam

Anas Aremeyaw exposed the actor when he made it known publicly that John Dumelo has scammed a Ghanaian woman in Australia to the tune of $10,000. It is alleged that John Dumelo quickly settled the debt to avoid disgrace. We never heard of the case again.

Did You Know That These Maasai Colors Had Meaning?

The Maasai are a tribe of people who live in parts of Tanzania and Kenya and are known as tall and fierce warriors.

They can be recognized by the special red cloth they wear which is called a Shuka. The Maasai Shuka has become their trademark and they wear it with utmost pride and elegance. Different colors represent different aspects of their culture.

That said, the different colors of the different prints of the maasai shuka represent different elements. Let us school you:

1. Orange

It represents hospitality, warmth, friendship & generosity

GagDaily

2. Blue

The Maasai community believes that raising cattle was a heaven sent gift and that the cattle was brought from the sky by God via use of a rope! Therefore, blue represents the sky that provides the water (rain) for the cows which are the source of food.

Dubaruba

3. Red

Red is the most important color for the Maasai community. It represents blood, and it is considered important for Maasai warriors to wear it as a way to protect themselves against wild animals. RED is considered a sacred color, and is always the basic color of the shuka, or blanket worn around the shoulders by both men and women.

MajiMotoMaasaiCamp

4. Green

Nourishment and production. Green represents the land that provides food for the Maasai and their livestock green also represents the need to protect territory, and to be rooted in a place.

ExtraordinaryJourneys

5. Yellow

Fertility and growth. Yellow represents the sun, which sustains life by helping grass, which cattle eat to grow. Just like the Western culture, in the Maasai community, yellow is considered to be a sign of happiness and prosperity.

Ero! Next time you’re buying a maasai shuka, keep the colors in mind.

Olamide vs Don Jazzy

Image: hfmagazineonline

Image: hfmagazineonline

This beef which has since been squashed by the timely intervention of Aliko Dangote entertained the Nigerian public for many days. The cause of this epic battle was the headies. The Olamide twitter rant and the Don Jazzy reply on the headies stage is one we will not forget in a hurry.

Dammy Krane vs Wizkid

Image: gistpartner

Image: gistpartner

This beef actually degenerated into a fight with Wizkid allegedly throwing a glass cup at Dammy Krane at Quilox which caused him bodily harm (lol, that’s proper speak for his mouth started bleeding). According to people at the scene, Wizkid hid behind his bodyguards.

PS: We were not there ooh.

Linda Ikeji vs Wizkid

Image: onyipeters

Image: onyipeters

In my humble opinion, “na Wizkid find trouble”. While popular blogger, Linda Ikeji was getting roasted on social media over the two Firkin (fake + Birkin) bags she claimed to have acquired in 8 months at Sloane street, UK for $14,000; Wizkid decided to add his two cents by agreeing with a Lagos based lawyer who said Linda had a poverty mentality. This was not a good idea as Linda took to her blog to throw shade at Wizzy who she called a “deadbeat dad” for refusing to acknowledge his son. Wizzy treated fans to a Snap where he demolished Linda. And the shade throwing continues.

Ay Makun and Stella Dimoko

Image: askteekay

Image: askteekay

It’s comedian vs Blogger this time. Ace comedian, Ay Makun took to Instagram to thank God and “sub” every blogger who carried the news of his marriage being on the rocks. Stella Dimoko, another popular blogger who was the source of the news gave a robust reply as expected. She even included some advice which we don’t know if Ay took.

5 Ghanaian Songs That Gained Popularity Through Movies

$

0

Promoting your song is not an easy thing to do and this has caused many good artists to still remain underground.

Ghanaian movies on the other hand, used not to value soundtracks and because our laws are flexible on using artist’s songs for movies, all movie producers did was to take an already existing song and made it a movie. When the law began catching up with them and artists started suing them for royalties, they decided to start recording their own soundtrack and this initiative was started by movies made in Kumasi which is now popularly known as Kumawood.

Since its inception, there has been many songs that have been recorded to accompany the moving pictures, but these songs are not usually good except some few which actually gave the artist a platform or made their song a hit. What we wish to reveal here today, are 5 of such songs that gained popularity because they were featured on a movie. Unfortunately, there are aren’t much artists who made it through so let’s roll.

1. Metanfo – Bisa Kdei

Nobody really knew Bisa K Dei till his song “Metanfo” was a soundtrack of a tragedy movie titled “Metanfo”, which gained popularity among Ghanaians. This caused the hit of the song and it brought the artist to light.

2. Azonto Ghost – Bisa Kdei

Bisa after “Metanfo” did not stop producing soundtracks for movies and continued to do a hit song for the movie “Azonto Ghost” which saw Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Wayne rise to heights.

3. Love Letter – Bisa Kdei

Another hit song from Bisa which gained popularity through a movie was Love Letter.

4. For Girls – Bisa Kdei

Most of the songs that made hits through movies seemed to have been done by Bisa K. Dei and “For Girls” was one of them which also happened to be the soundtrack of the movie “For Girls”.

5. Wo To Mpo Ni – Liwin & Stay J

Lil Wayne did this for a movie he co-produced and has become one of his antics since. The song became popular through the movie.

Dont we all just love breasts.

They are soft, pillowy, feminine they look perfect in wrap dresses and most importantly they give you great physical presence. But man aren’t they a tonne to handle, sometimes its almost like you have to pay to have them, and you shout TAKE THEM AWAY to the heavens before you quickly change your mind because you have unconditional love for them.

Let us see where the problem is shall we?

1. First of all there is this

Finding a button-up shirt that is proportional to your breast size is near IMPOSSIBLE. It almost always gives you that dreaded boob gap.

2. And because you live in Nairobi there will always be women looking at you like this, like you planned the whole thing.

3. And lets not forget about these guys

8 Most Powerful Ghanaian Politicians

$

Politics obviously rules in this part of town and politicians hold a lot of power.

There are politicians who speak and everyone listens and there are those who speak and nobody even cares. The powerful politicians cut across the political divide. When there’s an issue, these politicians are sought for their views and what they say mostly is accepted.

They are fearless, bold, courageous and will not be pushed by any one. They sometimes even go against their own parties when they feel the party’s stance or course is not right.

Below are the 8 powerful Ghanaian politicians.

1. Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings

He’s the one accredited with having ruled this country the longest. He started as a Head of State in 1979 and then became the First President of the Fourth Republic in 1992. He is the founder of the National Democratic Congress.

President Rawlings is feared and respected by both his party members and the opposition. He is a serious critique of his own party and wouldn’t mind expression his views in public. He’s noted for his infamous ‘boom’ statements where he doesn’t spare words in expressing his feelings about the governance of the country or trending issues of national importance.

2. Ex-President John Agyekum Kuffour

As an ex-president, he is respected and has a lot of power. He is a statesman and has been sought for advice and opinion by many with regards to current affairs. He’s a member of the opposition new Patriotic Party. He serves with several organizations all over the world and commands that authority as a former President.

John Agyekum Kuffour

3. President John Dramani Mahama

He is the current president and the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces. As per his party, the NDC’s constitution, he is the leader of the party and every decision must have final affirmation by him.

john-mahama2

4. Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo

He is the leader of the opposition NPP. He’s a lawyer and has been in politics for a very long time. A very respected politician with a huge fan base. There’s no doubt the amount of power Nana Addo wields in the political landscape of Ghana.

5. Asiedu Nketiah

He is the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress and has been involved in politics for a very long time. He is probably the most sarcastic politician ever. None the less, Asiedu Nketiah has a lot of power. What he says mostly is final when it comes to his party. He doesn’t also back down in any confrontation.

6. Kennedy Agyapong

He’s a member of the opposition NPP. A politician with a lot of following and power. He doesn’t mind washing dirty linens in public and will gladly descend into the gutter with you if you try. He speaks on almost every issue and his words are taken hook, line and sinker by his followers. He is feared even in his own party, the NPP.

Kennedy-Agyapong

7. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings

The former first lady and wife of Ex-President Rawlings is not new to Ghanaian politics. She’s been an active member of our politics from the era of the 79 coup by her husband to date. She’s a very straight forward person who speaks her mind without fear or favour. She is the leader of the National Democratic Party, a breakaway group of the National Democratic Congress and the 31st December Women’s Movement.

PoliticoScope

8. Dr.Mahamudu Bawumia

He is a former deputy governor of the Central bank, the Bank of Ghana. He is the running mate of the NPP flag bearer, Nana Akuffo-Addo. His knowledge and seeming expertise in economics has made him the peoples favorite when it comes to economic issues. His prominence and dominance cannot be underestimated in any way.

So Founding Father Jomo Kenyatta Was An Extra In A Movie, And He Was Paid £1.05

Our no nonsense founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was an extra in a movie.

Let that sink in for a minute. If you dont believe me check out this screen shot taken from the film Sanders of The River (1935) A role for which he was paid £1.05. Make no mistake this was quite a substantial amount at the time. There is our beloved grandfather sitting at number five on the extra list.

Screen Shot 2016-02-25 at 7.31.46 PM

What is interesting though is that he never liked to talk about it.It was a 6-minute role he never liked to discuss, and with good reason we think.

sanders3

So to give you a small recap of the film

The story is about a  ‘Lord Sanders’, a colonial-era British District Commissioner in Nigeria, and his African ally, Bosambo. He is a patronizing figure that holds people together, he goes on short leave and his replacement fails to maintain the peace. The rival King Mofolaba promptly raids Bosambo’s people and kidnaps his wife. Bosambo is also kidnapped and the community is soon back to its old ways of raiding each other. Peace only sets in when Sanders returns and puts things in place. When Sanders is going on leave, between the 34th-40th minutes of the 90-minute long film, a tall African man stands next to Bosambo.

That man is The First President of The Republic of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta!

jomo

Crazy huh? He was on his prolonged stay in Britain and was probably dead broke and looking for work.

Kenyatta got a rather simple role as an extra. His job mainly entailed puting on tribal clothing and standing next to Bosambo for a single scene. He maintains a serious face throughout the six minutes he is visible, as he is portraying an African chief.

sanders-of-the-river-movie-poster-1935-1020556054

After his cameo appearance, Kenyatta presented the director with an inscribed silver cigarette case, ostensibly as a token of thanks. But he had misunderstood what kind of film they were making.

_79533522_74ca6d05-6929-463a-a91b-303fc3e6fa9c

It is suspected that the reason for his silence on the film was due to the fact that it clearly celebrated the British colonial cause for the natives. Hence contradicted with what he had been fighting for all those years. A struggle that brought Kenya to where it is today.

Continue to rest well Mzee, you will probably make a serious A-list actor in your next life, if your presidency was something to go by.

Shatta Wale’s disqualification from this year’s Ghana Music Awards has generated lots of confusion among many Ghanaians and entertainment followers.

Movie maker Socrate Safo and George Quaye exchanged words Thursday evening when Kwasi Aboagye, host of Peace FM Entertainment Review gave the former an opportunity to query the PRO of Charterhouse over Shatta Wale’s disqualification from 2016 VGMAs.

Socrate revealed that Shatta Wale and his management wanted to meet top officials of Charterhouse when they submitted the nomination forms but they were told that Yola Ayewode was not in the country.

“You will agree with my that even before we came to submit the forms, we were planning to meet to solve this issue and you said Yola is in Cape Verde. It is not as if we have been ignoring to apologise”

He continued that the two parties agreed not to make this meting public but George Quaye broke the promise twice so he has to let their side of the story known. Socrate added that management contacted several high profile personalities in the country to join them say sorry to Charterhouse if their meeting had come off.

“I even told you (George Quaye) how far we have gone including getting honourable Dzifa Gomashie for this peace meeting. You were aware so it was not as if we have even ignored”

George Quaye reacting to Socrate’s comments admitted that he told them boss of Charterhouse, Yola Ayewode was not around but he informed him when he returned from his trip. According to him, he asked Socrate several times when they will be meeting officials of the event company to render apology but he kept giving different dates.

“Socrate can you say on air that I didn’t ask you several times off records that when you guys are coming? I wasn’t suppose to chase you but I was eventually chasing you. This organisation (Charterhouse) did everything and opened the door for two months for this issue to be solved but you didn’t come back. You kept giving excuses but Socrate, lets show some good faith. This organisation did everything to make sure that the right thing was done.”

He may have lost his TV show but Munene still takes home the big bucks. He went ahead and built a luxurious 8 bedroom mansion in Athi River’s Sabaki Estate which cost him a good KSH 15 Million.

4. Kalekye Mumo, KISS 100  – KSH 300,000

The leading lady of radio that has got everyone talking with her amazing weightloss journey also brings home the bacon, not forgetting her TV show that also rakes in some extra dough. She is surely not out to play.

3. Mbusii, Radio Jambo – KSH 600,000

There hasn’t been a better rags to riches story such as Mbusi. He started from the grassroots with almost nothing and rose to become a voice of masses. Goes to show just how far you can go by staying grounded and listening to your people.

2. Churchill, Classic I05 – KSH 1 Million

No surprise here, seeing as he is one of the most influential people in the country. He has controlled the airwaves with his effortless humour and charming wit. We see more happening for King’ang’i, never underestimate a man that ha seen tough times.

1. Maina Kageni, Classic 105 – KSH 1.8 Million

Another no brainer, Maina is one of the most charismatic presenters to have graced our radios. He is consistent and works perfectly alongside Mwalimu King’ang’i. Intially his salary was to the tune of 1 Million but was bumped up when K24 tried to poach him. And you know Royal Media were not about to suffer that kind of loss. Quite a big bump from number 5 above huh?
