Welcome to Ghana, where the word “hate or hater” is very much abused.

It’s a big deal to the extent that sometimes you don’t even have to do a thing to be hated. Sometimes, just one word and you will be soaked in hate water.

Here are some Ghanaians whose deeds have brought them enough hate to last for years.

Nigerian monarchy has undergone massive change in the past few years but one thing remains constant; These kings and queens are still held in very high esteem in their various kingdoms. They serve as the custodians of the culture and traditions laid down to them by their forefathers.

Talented photographer George Osodi captured these monarchs in their regal glory.

It is necessary to note that as at the time of writing, some of these kings have sadly joined their ancestors.

If A Woman Misbehaves Towards Me, I’ll Beat Her, I Don’t Fear Police – Bukom Banku

Ghanaian boxer, Braimah Kamoko, also known as Bukom Banku has reaffirmed public perception that he is a ‘woman beater’ who has no regard for the laws of this land.

The boxer who has 3 wives, indicated on Deloris Frimpong Manso’s “The Delay Show” that he doesn’t hesitate to beat any of his wives if they misbehave towards him.

When asked by show host, Delay if he’ll beat her (Delay) if she misbehaves, Bukom Banku replied in the affirmative.

“Yes, if you misbehave, I’ll beat you.”

He said between a woman and a man, the woman is supposed to respect the man therefore if a woman disrespects him, he’ll punch her.

When asked if he’s ever beaten any of his wives, he stated “proudly” that he’s beaten them several times. He further indicated that when he is arrested and sent to the police station, he’ll come home so he doesn’t mind at all.

He also stated that when he’s sent to court, he’s always discharged because the court knows that he’s a boxer and therefore if you confront him, he has every right to beat you.

Somebody tell me if this is not madness.

5 Wrong Reasons Why Some Ghanaian Women Get Married

$

When it comes to marriage, some Ghanaian women dey rush!

It seems thinking about marriage 24/7 is a full time job for some of our women. They are so consumed by the idea that they make irrational decisions to get into it and later have an ‘ummm I told you so’ moment.

Here are 5 reasons why some Ghanaian women rush into marriage. Hopefully if you are reading this, you will not add on to the number.

1. Because my BFF got married

As trivial as this may seem, it happens all the time. All the friends in Maame Afua’s circle are saying I do, leaving her behind. So naturally she questions herself. Do not let this influence you into saying ‘I do’ as well, knowing very well you are not emotionally, financially, spiritually and physically ready for it. It is very important you scrutinize this decision before you dive into it!

AllThingsAmMaMaMa/IDoGhana

AllThingsAmMaMaMa/IDoGhana

2. Because you have been dating for a while (years)

Here is another one, ‘oh I have been dating Kwame for a while, and he is yet to pop the question, me de3 I don’t know what to do oo’. You do not have to force your man into it if he is not ready. What you need to do is to sit your man down and have a conversation with him about the possibility of marriage . Allow him to grow, if possible help him  grow ,and both of you plan before you finally say ‘I DO’!

IDoGhana/Instagram

IDoGhana/Instagram

3. Because my parents are on my neck

We know our parents ‘ha adwene’ (bother us), and act like the world is going to disappear if you do not marry. It’s normal, but do not let that pressure be the sole reason why you are going to put a ring on it. Do it on your own terms, when you are ready. Have courage and talk to your parents and let them understand that you are not going to jump into something you very well know you are not ready for.

4. Because my biological clock is ticking

Biological clock? What is that? It is better to let it tick than rush into marriage because of this bio-whatever clock. Family planning is not something you should rush into; take your finances and job security into consideration before you make any decision.

Image: PeaceBenWilliams

5. Because marriage will solve all my problems

Getting married when you are at the crossroads in life, be it work or relationship is certainly not a good thing to do. When nothing seems to be going your way, life only frustrates you further. Getting married at this juncture is not a healthy thing to do as it may further complicate things. You need to first sort out your problems with the help of your friends and your loved ones. Once your mind is at peace, you can plan your marriage.

Sarkodie has disclosed that he regrets not concentrating fully on schooling at the time when his desire to do mainstream music was growing.

Sarkodie’s remark was in response to a question posed by Live 91.9 FM’s Jeremie on what he will love to change if he had the chance.

Image: GhanaMotion

“Back then in Senior high school, I thought time was not on my side so I run out of school to do music but now I know that I could have had a lot of time for myself and even completed school before focusing on my music,” he told the Touchdown host.

I guess he doesn’t regret it that much now considering the places he’s going with his music.

5 Absurd Comments Made By President Mahama

He is hailed as an expert communicator…

But these utterances of President Mahama in 2015 proved otherwise.

1. Blame mobile phones for dumsor.

The President addressing the Ghanaian community in Gambia where he was on a state visit, said the number of mobile phones in the country supersedes the total population in Ghana hence taking a huge toll on the meager megawatts of power in the country.

“Ghana’s population is 25 million but statistics indicate that mobile phone lines in Ghana is over 27 million and these phones are charged every night and this is one of the causes of the load shedding…,” he said.

2. I have dead goat syndrome.

On an official visit to Botswana, he reportedly told an audience of expatriate Ghanaians:

“I have seen more demonstrations and strikes in my first two years. I don’t think it can get worse. It is said that when you kill a goat and you frighten it with a knife, it doesn’t fear the knife, because it is dead already. I have a dead goat syndrome.”

“Goat” promptly became Mahama’s nickname.

3. Smart businesses are not laying off workers.

Speaking at the 2015 National May Day parade held at the Independence Square in Accra, President Mahama said the economy was still creating jobs.

Amid reports that some companies had laid off workers due to the power crisis, the President said smart businesses were not laying off workers, but were rather investing to improve their production capacities.

4. What do you know about presidency to question my competence?

President John Mahama in a clear response to what he calls opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) propaganda to label him “incompetent,” has said they have no right to describe him as such.

“They [NPP} have told all their communicators anytime you mention Mahama or NDC say incompetent. I hear Bawumia and co say incompetent Mahama administration. You never held any responsibility anywhere near presidency before. You do not know what it is like to be President.

I will take that word from Kufuor or Rawlings because they have been there before. All of you guys have never ever come near the presidency and you stand there and say incompetent Mahama administration… What do you know about competence?”

5. Ghana is rising again; nobody begs for iced-water anymore.

“God’s favour was on the country and we were able to overcome all that. Ghana is rising again; today we have the fastest growing middle class in Africa. Nobody goes to the next door to beg for iced water. In every house, everyone has a TV in his room and we have access to water,” he noted.

This Man Wants To Ban Social Media In Ghana

Government has been advised to consider the possibility of blocking social media sites during the November elections.

A security analyst, Irbard Ibrahim who made this suggestion in an interview on Radio Ghana explained that Ghana must do something “extraordinary to safeguard the results of our elections in November.”

Although he admitted that a total social media blackout during the period may not be too helpful to the discourse, he maintained that “it’s an avenue that can be looked at.”

Ghanaians will on November 7 elect new Members of Parliament (MPs) as well as a new President. This year’s election has been tipped to be one of the most keenly contested elections in the country’s history and calls for peace before, during and after the polls have already begun.

Irbard-Ibrahim

According to Mr. Ibrahim however, for peace to prevail and for people to trust the election results,

“government can look at a complete blackout or get a much more proactive social media portals so that you will be able to pre-empt all these things by giving out the right information.”

Mr. Ibrahim further recommended that the Electoral Commission should consider being very active on social media prior to the elections to help establish in the minds of Ghanaians that they are the go to source for any election related issue. He said the EC can take a cue from Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which took similar steps during their elections last year.

“We can do what Nigeria did; what INEC did – the Independent National Electoral Commission in Nigeria so that we will become more proactive than individual users and saboteurs that are on Facebook and Twitter so that you educate the whole nation as to where they can get authentic results rather than people giving results of various constituencies they’ve not been to or talking about violent activities when there is no iota of truth in it,” he said.

You know you are from Ghana when you can relate to these things ……

1. Paying bribe for people to do their work

In Ghana you regularly have to pay bribe for people to do their work, for eg. getting a passport, driver’s license, is a nightmare, you’d have to pay more than the official charges to get it done, pay to expedite the process and also pay more bribes to renew it when it expires … you just can’t win. Bribery goes as far as the judiciary system where some court judges took bribes in the form of goats(smh) and petty cash to free guilty criminals.

7. Lack of reliability

If a Ghanaian freelancer asks you to come back in three days for a work-done, just know that he actually means three weeks. Tailors and seamstresses are masters of this game.

8. One to two years rent advance

In most parts of the world rent is paid monthly, in Ghana, you’d have to cough out one or two years rent money upfront before you get a place to sleep at night

Sarkodie Attacks Mark Okreku Mantey, Kwasi Aboagye In New Song

Sarkodie has not been in the news for sometime now but it looks like he is going to be the talk of town in the coming days.

Sarkodie in his latest song ‘Mans World’ has hit hard at music producer and artiste manager, Mark Okreku Mantey and Peace FM entertainment review show host, Kwasi Aboagye.

The rapper in the song stated clearly that he does not need Kwasi Aboagye as a musician. According to Obidi, he was just visiting him on the Despite Group of Companies owned radio station but he didn’t know Kwasi Aboagye had issues with him.

In September 2015, OMGVoice.com reported that Kwasi Aboagye deprived Sarkodie an interview on Peace FM when he was touring radio stations to promote his “Mary” album launch. The entertainment show host explaining why he stopped the raper from coming on his show revealed that he sees no reason to give him airtime to promote his album when he (Sarkodie) does not open his gates when they call him for radio interview.

“I’m not forcing Sarkodie to come out to talk. Even Sammy Forson we all know he talks for him, you won’t also get him to speak on the issue.

If today you want publicity you jump from one radio station and you want us to just open our doors for you? I won’t open my doors for him. “Even when the person doesn’t want to talk to you, he finds a nice way of telling you. I recently experienced something like that from the general secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyapong. I personally picked my phone to call him and he said – “Oh Kwasi for this issue I don’t want to talk about it.” Kwasi Aboagye said this on Peace FM entertainment review in 2015.

Well, listen to the full song below to hear the exact words from Sarkodie before people start to say we have sugarcoated his words.

One peculiar thing with naming of towns, cities and places in the country is that we can just name a whole town after a number.

There are also two towns with the same name, usually separated with numbers, for instance,  “Pekyi No. 1” and “Pekyi No. 2”. This is done to avoid confusion and conflict and also help with differentiation.
